European Union legislators are re-examining rules that allow listed derivatives users to choose where to clear their trades, the European Commission’s head of securities markets, Tilman Lueder, has told a virtual conference.
“I do want to stress that post-Brexit, this issue has come to the fore again, because the European exchanges are very strong in these integrated futures and this is a business model, which they would like to see preserved for the European Union for the creation of benchmark indices, which require – in their view – this vertically integrated structure,” said Lueder, during a virtual conference hosted by Bloomberg on February 4. “So therefore, exchange-traded derivatives and open access will also form an integral part of our MiFID review.”
