French Regulator Questions Need for Share Trading Equivalence

A senior French markets regulator has questioned the need for offering third countries an equivalence determination under European Union share trading rules, after the application of the rules to non-EU shares was clarified late last year.

“On the share trading obligation, perhaps it was not needed to have an equivalence system,” said Natasha Cazenave, deputy head of the regulatory policy and international affairs directorate at the Autorité des marchés financiers during a virtual conference on January 14.
